LOCAL CHILD WITH RARE CONDITION TO START LIFE-CHANGING THERAPY IN SPRING, AFTER KEY DONATION

Online prize draw company steps in to support five year-old Teddy Wood

ONLINE prize draw company Elite Competitions has covered the cost of transformative therapy for a young boy with one of life’s rarest neurological conditions.

Five year-old Teddy Wood lives with Moebius Syndrome - a congenital disorder that affects facial expression, mobility and motor skills in approximately just 200 people across the UK.

The tragic condition leaves the young lad unable to smile, speak, stand, or breathe without a ventilator.

To combat his condition, Teddy, from Blackpool, Lancashire, receives only one hour of NHS physiotherapy every eight weeks leaving his family to foot the bill for the rest of his treatment.

Teddy’s Mum, Amber Nuttall said: “There are so many disabled children that need support and the NHS has to decide who it can help, because for some children it won't work. That’s difficult for us to accept.

“While Teddy faces many challenges he is brave, resilient and his spirit shines through every day. We’ve seen a difference from the short sessions that he has had, so we know it benefits him.

“What he needs is a specialised Dynamic Movement Intervention plan to help him build strength and muscle memory consistently, but that type of care is so expensive.”

Elite Competitions heard about Teddy’s predicament after his family launched a fundraising campaign to cover the cost of an intensive physiotherapy plan. The prize draw company invited Teddy and his mum to visit its HQ on a promise of raising awareness about Moebius Syndrome.

But, when they arrived its ‘contributions team’ surprised the pair with a £2,500 cheque to cover Responding to the company’s gesture, Amber said that the donation would have a “massive impact” on Teddy’s life.

the cost of a weeklong advanced physiotherapy programme at a specialist clinic in Wales.

She said: “The therapy is so important for him to develop, and this means that his basic needs can finally be met. I’m so excited for him, it’s going to change his life.

“He’ll be more independent, more included in daily life and able to join in with family and his friends as he gets stronger.”

Teddy is now booked in for his treatment stay at Therapy Stars in Wrexham on May 18th, where he will undergo two to four hour repetitive movement sessions for a full week.

Elite Competitions CEO Alex Beckett said: “When we heard about Teddy and the challenges he faces every single day, we knew we had to do something to help. This company has been built on changing lives but that doesn’t always mean through winning prizes.

“Moments like this mean a lot to everyone who works here. If we can use our success and platform to make a real difference to a family’s life, then that’s what truly matters most.

“We’re honoured to support Teddy on this next step of his journey and we can’t wait to see his progress.”
