I LOST MY JOB… BUT TWO WEEKS LATER I BECAME A MILLIONAIRE

Jobless 21-year-old wins £1m in online prize draw with Elite Competitions a fortnight after being laid off

A young Scotsman who didn’t know where his next pay cheque would come from has become a millionaire two weeks after losing his job.

21-year-old Nathan Conway lost his income after he was let go from working as a steel erector.

So, the plucky lad from Cumnock spent £25 of his savings to buy tickets to an online prize draw called The Million Pound Vault and won Elite Competitions biggest ever cash prize of £1m.

The new young millionaire explained: “I wasn’t sure what I was going to do next and I’d had no luck finding another job in those two weeks..

“Going from losing my job to winning one million pounds two weeks later is absolutely mental. I still feel like I haven’t woken up and am still dreaming.”

Nathan was at a friend’s house having a drink when he received the phone call telling him he had become a millionaire. What started as a quiet drink quickly turned into a celebration that lasted until 8AM the next day.

“As soon as I got the call telling me I’d won I ordered a load of drinks for me and the lads. It turned into a mad night and we definitely took it too far. We didn’t end up going to sleep until about 8am and the next day I didn’t get out of bed at all.”

Nathan later visited Elite Competitions’ headquarters in Blackpool with his family and best friend Jack, where the £1 million was transferred straight into his bank account before his eyes.

Nathan said: “Seeing one million pounds in my bank is crazy. I showed everyone because it just looks mental. It’s not something you ever expect to see.”

Nathan says the win means he can now help those closest to him, starting with his dear 61-year-old nan, Rachel Conway.

He explained: “The first thing I want to do is buy my nana a house. She struggles with the stairs where she lives now so it would mean a lot to help her out.”

Despite the huge windfall, Nathan says he plans to be careful with the money and hopes to invest it - possibly in properties and commercial units.

“My life has completely changed. I never need to work again, but it’s also a lot of money and if you’re stupid it can go quickly. I want to invest it and hopefully grow it.”

Although, Nathan has also admitted that he may treat himself to a dream car and has his eye on a BMW M340i at the top of his wish  list.

Elite Competitions Managing Director Alex Beckett said: “At 21, Nathan is the youngest £1 million winner we’ve seen at Elite, so far. Wins of this size are what our competitions are all about.

“We’ve told him to get good advice because that kind of money comes with a lot of responsibility.

“We wish him all the best and are so pleased for the start that this has given him in life.”
