Every now and then, a win comes along with an incredible story behind it – and Jake’s is certainly one of them.
Blackpool electrician Jake Emery scooped £750,000 tax-free cash in our biggest-ever Millionaire Maker competition — a moment he still can’t quite believe.
Jake, 33, runs MJ Electrical & Technical with his best mate and business partner Michael Bunnage. It’s been a challenging year for the business, and Jake recently decided to visit St. Paul’s Church in Blackpool for some personal reflection.
“I’ve not been to church in 20 years,” Jake told us. “I just felt like I needed a bit of clarity. I left feeling lighter — but I never imagined what was coming next.”
Just two days later, Jake’s name was drawn live in our Millionaire Maker competition, landing him a £1 million prize bundle of luxury cars, holidays, goods and cash. He opted for the £750,000 cash alternative, and — sticking to a long-standing agreement — immediately split the winnings with Michael.
“We made a deal years ago,” Jake said. “If one of us ever won big, we’d go 50/50. And that’s exactly what I’ve done.”
Michael, 34, said he was stunned:
“We’ve been best mates since school — everything’s always been 50/50. I honestly thought he was winding me up until the money hit. But that’s Jake through and through.”
The pair now plan to invest in property to build long-term security for their families.
Jake has been entering Elite Competitions’ draws for eight years, with his only previous win being a TV — until now. His story has already inspired thousands of players following along on social media.
Elite Competitions CEO Alex Beckett said:
“This is one of those wins that gives you goosebumps. The generosity, the timing — it’s unbelievable. Jake’s win highlights what Elite is all about: real winners and real moments.”
Since launching, Elite Competitions has given away over £100 million in prizes, from dream cars and cash jackpots to luxury holidays and one-off experiences — all drawn live every week on Facebook and YouTube.
As for Jake and Michael, they’re back on the tools for now — but with a fresh outlook on life.
“It’s been incredible,” Jake said. “An unforgettable moment for both of us.”
